HERA Marks MayDay with a Salvage Workshop

Posted on: April 8th, 2015 by Jessica Unger | Atlanta, GA

Every year, libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and preservation organizations set aside May 1 to participate in MayDay. Next month, the AFR Atlanta network, HERA (Heritage Emergency Response Alliance), will mark MayDay with an all-day wet salvage recovery workshop at the Georgia Archives. This hands-on workshop, taught by collections conservator and AIC-CERT member Ann Frellsen, will give participants experience in dealing with the aftermath of water damage and the recovery of waterlogged materials. Visit HERA’s website for more information.

Beginning this year, the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (FAIC), is leading the charge to get organizations to do one thing for emergency preparedness. In the works are disaster preparedness tips and a free May 1 Connecting to Collections Care webinar, “What Next? Emergency Response and Recovery for Small and Mid-sized Institutions.”
